Présentation :

In this contribution, I aim at underlining several long-term trends throughout the history of Paris-Sud, and how they may be relevant to understand the present situation. I will focus mainly on the Orsay campus, as it was the university’s birthplace and its largest campus. I argue that the Orsay site was designed as a solution to several problems, but not as a project in itself. Beyond the institutional affiliations, a shared identity was born from the sense of working in an exceptional natural site.
